Saving Money Versus Supplementing Your Income

Saving Money Versus Supplementing Your Income

“A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore!” –Yogi Berra

Retired seniors are discovering that it’s very difficult to save money on a fixed income. Prices on everything keep rising while the income stays the same. Unless you’re independently wealthy upon retirement, you may find yourself cutting coupons and even cutting back on medical prescriptions to save money for essentials such as rent and utilities.

There is Hope

You don’t have to live the rest of your life saving money to make ends meet. With the advent of the Internet, many opportunities are now available that have never been open to you before.

Me? Make Money On the Internet?

Starting your own Internet business can be fun and rewarding – not only from a monetary standpoint, but also mentally stimulating as well. Even if you don’t know a great deal about computers, there’s plenty of help (including school classes, books and online tutorials and sites) to boost you along.

Why Work for Someone When You can Work for Yourself?

If you’re looking for some type of job to keep you active and help supplement your retirement income, you need to look no farther than starting an online business. You can set your own hours and go as far with the business as you desire.

It is Better to Earn More to Make Ends Meet

With the rising cost of living, it seems that no one is able to save enough to let them completely retire. That means you’re going to have to rethink your plans for retirement. Rather than trying to save enough, you need to start thinking about working after retirement to supplement the retirement income.

It is Never Too Late to Plan Your Business

If you’re still working, you can begin your Internet business as a part time venture and build it up so that when you do retire, your income from the business can be just the boost you need to keep you from having to look for a job outside the home.

Second career seniors and Baby Boomers are considering this option. Here is a book for late bloomers who make a career change late in life. The topics apply to people like us who are retired and want to continue to make a difference and make money doing it. This is the second edition and the Kindle edition is on sale with a $5 discount off the list price. Click here for more information. (Prices subject to change without notice.)

Do I Need Investment Capital?

out-of-pocket money to begin. You just need a computer, know how to use it and you can begin immediately.

Here is a recent book published in February 2017 that is free right now on Amazon Kindle store! Finding Your Niche as a Senior Entrepreneur

Finding Your Niche as a Senior Entrepreneur

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” –Thomas Edison

By the time you retire, you likely know what you enjoy doing. In fact, you may have become quite an expert at a particular topic such as Golf, Fishing, Cooking, Travel or Crafts.

Passion + Knowledge = Senior Business:

You may have also had job experience (such as security or financial) that you can turn into a moneymaking opportunity on the Internet. Imagine turning your lifelong passion into a profit-churning business.

Chose Your Methods:

There are so many online options for you to become a senior entrepreneur. Blogging, affiliate marketing, creating digital courses and many more ideas are waiting for you to voice your expertise to help others learn what you already know.

Exploring it further, you may see a way to turn that knowledge into a business that you can profit from and enjoy. Whether you’re looking for a niche that you’ll have fun dabbling in or one that will fill a need and make money – you can find success by following your passion.

speak out for home-based-businesses

Find a Niche\

There are different ways to go about picking a niche. Aside from profits and passions, make sure you either know enough about the concept to share it, or you’re willing to learn and share.

Newbie? No Problem!

There’s nothing wrong with starting your business as a bona fide newbie, and saying so – because people love to watch the journey unfold as someone absorbs information that’s new to them, and shares how they implement the knowledge until they achieve success.

Caution! Read this:

Make sure that you can enjoy – or at least stomach – writing about your chosen topic on a regular basis. Don’t pick something that will make you dread working on it often because blogs and online businesses require your attention.

Research Topics:

Go into a bookstore (storefront or digital) into the non-fiction category, or look online, and see what kinds of topics there are. These are generally topics people will pay money for – such as relationship help, cooking advice, and more.

Think Small:

Think about whether you want to be in a broad niche, such as anti aging or survival – or if you prefer to narrow it down to something like skincare or food prepping. Sometimes a broad niche gives you more opportunities for sales, but the narrow niche enables you to position yourself as the go-to expert a little more easily.

Don’t pick a niche that you’ll be unhappy in. Even a niche like depression may seem rewarding because you get to help people, but keep in mind that your audience may also make you feel sad if you’re the type of person to let other peoples’ problems weigh on you heavily.

For more information on finding a profitable niche, click here for the book: “Niche Marketing Online.” The author explains the strategy behind finding that perfect niche that you will enjoy developing over time.

Seniors Facing Financial Insecurity Turn to the ‘Net for Stability

Seniors Facing Financial Insecurity Turn to the ‘Net for Stability

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” –Thomas Edison

One of the most appealing facts seniors appreciate about the Internet is that it can supplement their retirement income. Many seniors discover they did not save enough when they were working and don’t have enough to retire comfortably. You have a choice:

  • Pinch pennies to make ends meet

  • Find a way to earn more money to supplement your retirement income

The Information Highway is the Path to Financial Independence

The ‘net offers a myriad of methods to leverage income and experience – and without the startup costs of most businesses or embarking on new careers. There is so much information available (including courses you can take on your computer) about making money on the Internet that seniors should have no problem finding a path that suits them well.

All you need is a basic knowledge of computers and how the Internet works (through emailing and other methods of communication). You should be able to create a custom-made business plan that perfectly suits your needs.

The ‘Net Provides Access to Resources

You’ll find all types of help, including forums, blogs, online tutoring and much more that will teach, motivate and help you begin earning money that can make you more financially secure during your retirement years.

Set Up a Website

WordPress makes it fairly easy to identify you and immediately begin to bring in revenue with very small startup costs. These costs may include a small amount for a domain and hosting for your new venture. Stay tuned to this blog for my video lessons on using Word Press for your business.

Beware of Scams: There are No Free Lunches on the Internet!

Know that starting an online business has very few shortcuts. There are many scams on the ‘net that prey on seniors and those desperate for money and offer overnight success.

You Must Devote Time and Energy Before Seeing Results

There’s no overnight success when it comes to creating an online business. Your financial success depends on more than just how much time and effort you’re willing and able to put into your business. It requires you to enjoy helping the readers in your niche market.

Need Help? Just Ask!

When in doubt, visit a valued forum or blog and ask those who have had success in building an online business. You’ll find that most entrepreneurs will be ready and willing to help you as much as you need and even offer some alternative and legitimate ways to learn the business.

I joined a “Boot Camp for Freelance Writers” and found a community of friendly supporters. I took several coaching courses on video and affiliate marketing with Tiffany Lambert. She stills offers advice and counsel a year after taking her courses.

Rewards of an Internet Business

The Internet offers some of the best methods for seniors to make money to supplement their incomes. But even more important – it offers unique challenges which can boost mental acuity and help inactive seniors become excited about life again.

Take advantage of the opportunities the Internet offers for making extra cash and using skills you’ve learned during your lifetime. You’ll enjoy sharing your years of wisdom, or even embarking on a brand new niche adventure for something you’ve always wanted to learn.

Begin researching ways to make money from home on the Internet. I have been reading the “For Dummies” series for years because they provide information in a simple, step-by-step format that is for the newcomer to the topic. They have an excellent book on Amazon called “Starting an Online Business All-in-One.” It is packed with information that you need to get started. It will also serve as a reference for you to use in the future. It has a 4.5 star review from people who have read it. You can find out more information on the book by clicking here.

How to Expand Your Market Reach using LinkedIn

How to Expand Your Market Reach using LinkedIn

“Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” –Sun Tzu

LinkedIn can increase you market reach exponentially. Never before in history have business owners had so much information at their fingertips, with such close proximity and access to their markets. LinkedIn is an effective marketing channel that targets businesses and professionals.

Here are 4 tactics you can use to increase your market reach:

  1.  Search for Prospects:

The power of LinkedIn search of its database is incredible. You will find extensive information on your prospects. Let’s look at some key data points to help you in your search. There are three levels of connections as they relate to you:

  • First degree connections are direct contacts
  • Second degree connections require a connection request
  • Third degree connections require an introduction from your shared connection

The type of information LinkedIn provides is also amazing:

  • You can determine the background of the connection
  • You can see the connections you have in common with your prospect
  • You also can find information on their products and services
  • You can find common interests, schools, charity, and much more to help you establish common ground with your prospect

  1. Conduct a monthly search
  2. Compile a list of your results
  3. Choose the top three decision makers
  4. Decide how to reach them
  5. Try to connect with them by the end of the month
  6. When you make the connection request, introduce yourself by sharing a common interest

Here is an example:

If the prospect’s charity interest is feeding the homeless and you share that same passion, let them know in your introduction.

Hi Joe! I see we work every Saturday to feed the homeless people by serving food in a shelter. I am so excited. My wife and I just helped a homeless mother and her two small children not only eat a hot meal, but we placed them in a woman’s shelter. How about you? Let’s connect and get to know each other.”

Frankly, it would be difficult not to connect with a person sharing your social cause.

  1.  Join Targeted Groups:

Groups are an excellent way to market your business, products and / or services to interested parties. The trick is not to become a spammer by only using the group to promote your stuff. Instead, become a resource to the group within your expertise. Over time, people will come to know, like and trust you.

  • Join three group
  • Find 2 that you believe your target market uses
  • Find one your colleagues use
  • Create a unique introduction for each group
  • Participate daily.

  1.  Create Your Own Group:

If your goal is to make sales, then create a group for your target audience with you as the leading expert. Share information with the group and offer to help members with problems. People will remember you as the expert.

  • Use existing material you created (like your blog) and use it for a group
  • Invite the people to join
  • Ask them to invite others
  • Consider marketing the group to get more members
  • Interact regularly with your group.

  1. Purchase Direct Ads:

The best use of direct ads is with your company page.

  • You can budget expenses via “Impressions” or “Clicks”
  • You can create a variety of ads
  • Target your audience with relevant keywords in the text of the ad
  • With the right “Call to Action,” these ads will generate leads

  1. LinkedIn ads are effective in promoting your brand
  2. LinkedIn ads can build your targeted connections list
  3. LinkedIn ads are cost effective
  4. Selecting the right keywords will reach your key business customers

Following these four marketing strategies for LinkedIn will help you expand your reach, increase brand awareness, and improve sales.

Internet Marketing Helps Seniors Socialize on a Global Scale

Internet Marketing Helps Seniors Socialize on a Global Scale

“LinkedIn is for people you know. Facebook is for the people you used to know. Twitter is for people you want to know.” –Seth Godin

The Internet has opened the world to seniors who might be limited in their ability to move around and get things done. Being alone is the number one complaint among stay-at-home seniors and depression can set in unless some level of socialization is available.

How the Internet Helps Seniors Achieve a Better Quality of Life

Seniors who use the Internet to socialize and expand their horizons all agree that those who don’t use the ‘net are at a serious disadvantage. The Internet offers a world of information such as seminars, webinars, chat rooms, blogs to express your opinion and so much more.

Expand Your Social Circles and Stay Mentally Active

It’s a shame if seniors don’t or won’t take advantage of this relatively new way of socialization. Socializing with others, either on the ‘net or in person can open a whole new world to seniors who might otherwise be alone for long periods of time.

Socialization in Retirement Communities Like The Villages, FL Slows Memory Decline

The science of socialization reports evidence that those seniors in the United States who lead an active social life will experience a slower decline in memory. Online socializing with others can promote feelings of well-being and satisfaction that never happens with those seniors who don’t know how to use a computer or the Internet.

Reach Out and Touch Someone

Social media sites help seniors keep in touch with family and friends. The ability to Skype or use apps such as Facetime can bring seniors even closer and help them feel more connected and involved.

Home-Based Business is Possible with Social Media

Internet jobs and business building are available to seniors who want to utilize their lifetime skills after retirement. It’s a great and sure way to supplement an income that might not be enough to make ends meet.

Technology has changed our lives – mostly for the better. Seniors are a group that can benefit greatly from the opportunities offered with computers and the Internet. The skills they learn offer a sense of purpose and hope for the future as well as helping financially to meet daily needs and desires.

I found this best selling  book on amazon at an amazing price of $0.99! It is called “Social Media: How to Skyrocked Your Business with Social Media Marketing.” Click here to grab it now.

Never Stop Learning, Ever!

It’s imperative that seniors know what is available through the Internet. Learning Internet marketing can open a global scale of commerce and socialization that was never possible before.

And the socialization aspect of learning how to navigate the Internet is a fun and important way to keep in touch with others, learn new cultures and keep the mind active and alert.

Home Biz for Retirees Wants to Help Seniors Succeed on the ‘Net

Consultants exist on the Internet to help seniors learn the skills they need to engage in social media and to build an online business that will help supplement their retirement income and boost their confidence and mental acuity.

If you’re a senior, you’ll find friends and networking partners as well as customers who are ready in many different countries – waiting for someone to help them in a niche of your choosing.
