Improve Your Search Engine Results Page (SERP} with Social Interaction
“For good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument, debate.” –Margaret Heffernan
The more people interact and engage with your content, the better. Create interesting, targeted and valuable content and you will get a lot more interaction and engagement from your audience.
The following are the types of things that signal interaction to the search engines.
The more people who click through the links that you offer on social media through email, in ads, and other avenues, the higher up in the SERPs your website or blog will appear. Due to the popularity of the link, the search engines will assume that the website and content are wanted by an audience since they are linking.
If a lot of people go to your website and bounce right off, that is a sign to the search engine that your website is somehow lacking and it will lower the ranking of your website substantially. Here are some issues to address:
- Slow loading pages
- A site that’s not mobile
- Using “click bait” to get clicks that are irrelevant.
These are just a few examples to fix the problem. Click here for a book to help you.
Direct Traffic Rate
How many people come to your website directly without coming in through a landing page, an article or other link? If people type in your domain name often and automatically, that is a sign that your site is popular and authoritative.
Repeat Traffic Rate
How many people come back to your website again and again to read your content? This is important because if it’s often, that means your website is a reliable source of news for your audience.
Google keeps track of Chrome bookmarks. If your website is marked frequently, then it means it’s important to your audience. That may boost your SERPs a little bit and you won’t even realize it’s happening. By making your website more interesting and targeted to your audience, people will bookmark it.
Number of Comments
When people make comments of substance on your blog posts, it means that your content is thought provoking, especially when there are multiple comments. The more comments, the higher the content will appear in the SERPs.
This is how long people stay on your website. You want people to stick around on the website and use your content. The longer they do, the better your website looks to the search engines and the higher you’ll be ranked.
Comments, clicking on links, and using the tools to get more interaction on your blogs, websites, social media sites and communities, will help advance the idea that you are an expert and your website is authoritative. This will then raise your search engine ranking.

One of the books I read that was very helpful was written by Vick Carley, “Affiliate Marketing 2015.”
I am a retired Baby Boomer struggling to understand how to run an online home-based business. The learning curve can be challenging for a “tech newbie” to master. But the Internet offers quite a few options on how to make money on the World Wide Web.
Make Money With Affiliate Marketing
There are several options to monetize a website. I discovered that affiliate marketing is an effective means to sell other people’s products and collect a commission on the sale. I found this book offers a complete blueprint on what is involved in this business model.
What is “Call to Action?”
The author describes how the best affiliate marketer persuades readers to a “call to action”. The best way to sell the product is to offer the reader valuable information that is interesting and applicable to solve a problem. Then the writer develops a gentle, persuasive tone to encourage the reader to click the link. The rest is up to the seller’s landing page to persuade them to buy the product.
How an Affiliate Link Works
The question is, “How can the seller keep track of the sale and ensure the commission is paid”. “Cookies”, (a digital code), make this business model effective. They create unique links assigned to the seller and ensure a commission is paid accordingly.
A Blueprint for Success
The book is a complete study on affiliate marketing and how you can benefit from this business model. It really will help you understand this new world that didn’t exist twenty years ago. Click here to buy the book.
What is the Secret to Success with an Online Home Based Business? Never Stop Blogging!
“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.–Julie Andrews
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to promote their home-based business is that when they get busy they give up on blogging.
One of the best tools you have at your fingertips to build traffic to your website is your blog. The blog is the number one way that people find their way to your website.
Here are seven reasons why you should blog:
- Great for SEO (Search Engine Optimization):
Your blog is perfect for improving search engine optimization because you can write keyword-rich, authoritative articles full of useful information. Your goal is to provide the information that your audience wants to read. The Search Engines like frequently updated websites and the easiest way to update a site is via the blog.
- Connect with Customers
A blog is a wonderful way to connect with your customers. If you open up the blog to comments, then it’s more like a busy message board or forum. You should answer questions and enter into discussions with everyone who comments on your blog posts. Not only that, those comments are also great for SEO. Search engines look for recent activity.
- Build Authority:
When you blog about things in your business, your audience will get to know you better. Over time, they will realize that you’re an authority for the topic being discussed. Proving your knowledge by writing many blogs will build your reputation and readership.
- You Can Create New Products:
Through blogging, you’ll be able to analyze your reader’s problem, and then you solve it for them. As you develop a problem and solution format, you’ll be able to use those blogs as future information products.
- Offers Free PR Press Releases:
Few things in life are free. If you write the posts yourself, the blog is as free as it gets. Not only that, it’s also a very effective form of marketing. You can use the blog for other types of publicity. You can announce a special event, a special sale, and special demonstrations to your market. It can even open doors in the same way that a Press Release is designed to perform.
- Build Relationships:
Your customers will come to expect your blogs, and they will look at you as the “go to” person. You build relationships because you are writing with your reader in mind. Then your audience will feel like you’re thinking of them when you deliver your post.
- Provides Audience Insight:
Open up your blog with a comment section and invite readers to ask questions. This is the best way to discover your reader’s interest. Just ask for feedback. Then you can use that information for future blog posts, and products.
8. Blogging Develops Traffic Over Time
When you start a blog, it seems to move slowly at first. But after you’ve managed to post on a regular basis for a few months, you’ll start to see a steady trend upwards for site visitors, comments, and engagement. The upward trend will not slow down if you never stop blogging.
Every home based business should have a website. Every website should have a blog. Blogging is the key component to the success of your marketing strategy. Never stop blogging, never.
Blogging for Beginners. by Khalid Zindan.
Mr. Zindan certainly took Julie Andrew’s quote, mentioned above, to heart. He had a string of failed blogs and almost gave up. But with every failure, he learned a valuable lesson, which he shares with you in his story. Eventually he succeeded in developing profitable blogs. The author provides real life examples by linking you to his blogs so you can clearly understand the principles of developing an engaging blog.

Plan Your Blog, Work the Plan For Blogging Success
“Failure to plan, is a plan to fail.” –Ivan Hall
It seems like a silly question, but I would guess that most bloggers don’t know the true reason why they blog. And because of that, they flounder and don’t earn money.
I’m hoping that our discussion today will help you discover the reason why you are blogging. As a retiree, I tried several attempts to do a blog, only to give up due to lack of ideas. My father, Ivan Hall, often told me to plan my work and then work the plan.
Why Bloggers Fail
For many, the road to blogging starts with the thought, “Hey, I’d like to have my own blog.” They see another successful blogger and decide they can do it too. They jump in with both feet and fail after a few tries. Why did they fail?
- There is no plan to create a focused online presence.
- There is no plan to grow a faithful audience.
- And worst of all, there is no financial plan.
Whether you’re just getting started, or you’ve been blogging for a while, it pays (literally) to take a step back and really examine WHY you’re blogging. You want to ensure you’re on the right track to achieve your goals.
What is Your Focus?
While there are some examples of bloggers who blog their random daily thoughts and grow a large readership, it’s not the norm. The most successful blogs have a focus and something unique to deliver to their audience.
For example, you may be a mom blogging about your adventures in motherhood. You share a unique perspective that may help other mothers who want to succeed as a parent. Or you may be a retiree sharing your perspective on life and the pursuit of happiness.
The point? You must find a key focus and unique perspective that will help you grow a faithful audience. Have an edge, have a point of view and deliver something unique to your audience. It’s your uniqueness that will draw people to you.
Blog, Baby, Blog!
Still, being unique isn’t going to magically make your audience grow. You can’t make a few blog posts this week and expect to be a popular blogger next week. Growing your audience takes time, hard work and even some money.
We’re going to be talking about growing your following in a later post. You may be satisfied with a few hundred readers on your blog. That is perfectly fine. But if you want to have an audience of thousands or tens of thousands, you have to have a plan to get there.
You Need to Plan How to Make Money Online
And finally, a lack of a financial plan is the kiss of death when it comes to blogging for profit. Knowing your monetization plan before you start makes it easier to shape your blog.
For example, if you plan to sell advertising, design your blog with advertising space. You also need large traffic numbers to charge advertisers. So you need a traffic plan to be in place.
I’ll talk about monetization methods in future posts. This should help you carve out a financial plan for yourself.
Don’t be Discouraged
If you’ve been blogging and you’re thinking you haven’t thought through these things, don’t worry. All is not lost. While it’s easier to start with a concrete plan from the outset, everything can be corrected.
Review of What You Should Ask Yourself About Your Blog
That’s the beauty of the Internet…everything can be changed and it doesn’t have to cost much to do it. If this describes you, start brainstorming now.
- What makes you unique in your niche?
- Why do people come to read your stuff?
- How will you grow your audience?
- How will your blog make you money?
Key to Success
Just write as many ideas you can for each question and don’t worry if the ideas don’t flow quickly right now. Keep those brainstorming sheets, as we talk about these topics in more depth in the coming posts. You’ll have plenty more ideas by the time I’m finished here. 🙂
You May Be Retired, But You Must Keep Learning
“When you are finished changing, you are finished.”
Small business owners want to have a website that gets results. Making money online depends on attracting prospects, bringing in leads and converting visitors into customers are just some of the goals for making money on line. It is the “Prime Directive” for your business.
But, like most things with technology, there are always changes taking place. It’s important to keep abreast of these issues even if you’re not a web designer. One such issue is the need for a responsive website design. Here’s why that’s so important.
– A responsively designed website will be easier to use for the visitors than one that isn’t. A responsive design is clean, has useable menu options, and uses all the technology available for one-click calls, one-click emails, and more. A website optimized for mobile will work better than others.
Mobile Web Growth
– Mobile internet has grown by over 400 percent in the last two years and is going to continue to grow. However, it’s not going to replace other types of devices. In fact, people are becoming multi-device users. They use their phone, their tablets, and their PC interchangeably.
SEO (Site Engine Optimization)
Having a responsive website is one of the best things you can do for your search engine optimization. The reason is that most search engines give a higher return of responsive sites as results in searches. Plus, responsive websites are easier to use and simply work better.
It’s important to be careful about using Flash on your desktop version of your website, but you should never use it if you want your website to be responsible. When you embed videos in your website, this can be an issue. Be sure to use a plugin that enables you to deliver the video to both mobile users and desktop users.
Stop Using Pop-Ups
It’s true that they do work great to convert on your desktop. But, you need to ensure that you set them up not to try to deliver to a mobile device, because they simply don’t work on mobile devices.
Consider the Fingers
Remember that people using mobile devices are typically using their finger to click their choices. Design buttons and drop downs with that in mind, giving plenty of finger room and differentiation between choices.
Create Optimized Page Titles
Even on mobile, each page needs a good page title. You want to avoid titles that are drawn out and confusing. Use keywords in the titles, and keep them short when possible.
Optimize Meta Descriptions
Meta descriptions for mobile need to be short; in fact keep it to 120 characters or less. This will ensure that Google and other search engines are getting the most information in the best way.
Hire a Web Designer or Use a Good WordPress Theme
If you want more visitors and repeat visitors, it’s important to keep these things in your radar. Even if you’re not a web designer, you’ll need to stay informed. You can hire a good web designer or simply use the right self-hosted WordPress themes.
